NOTICE
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during
performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair
of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers
before opening any compartment or disassembling any component
containing fluids.
Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service
Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain
fluids on Caterpillar products.
Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
1. Turn the fuel supply to the OFF position.

2. Open door assembly (1) .
3. Drain the fuel from sediment bowl (6) into a suitable container for storage or for disposal.
Remove sediment bowl (6) .
4. Use Tooling (A) in order to remove fuel filter (5) .
5. Disconnect hose assemblies (2). Plug and cap all open ports and hose assemblies (2). This
helps to prevent fluid loss, and this helps to keep contaminants from entering the system.
6. Remove bolts (3) and remove filter base (4) .
Installation Procedure

1. Position filter base (4) and install bolts (3) .
2. Connect hose assemblies (2) .
3. Install fuel filter (5). Install sediment bowl (6) .
4. Close door assembly (1) .
5. Turn the fuel supply back to the ON position.
6. Prime the fuel system. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Fuel System - Prime"
for instruction.

Do not allow hot oil or components to contact the skin.
Be sure that the engine and components are cool enough to touch with
your bare hand prior to performing any service work.

Note: Put identification marks on all hose assemblies for installation purposes. Plug all hose
assemblies and all tube assemblies. This helps to prevent fluid loss, and this helps to keep
contaminants from entering the system.
1. Raise the hood and disconnect hose assemblies (3) .
2. Use Tooling (A) in order to remove oil filter (4). Remove bolts (1) and the nuts. Remove
filter base (2) .

Engine Oil Filter Base - Disassemble

Disassembly Procedure
Start By:
A. Remove the oil filter base. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Oil Filter and Oil Filter
Base - Remove" for the proper procedure.
Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before you begin the disassembly procedure, the exterior
of the components should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the
internal mechanism. Precision components can be damaged by contaminants or by dirt. Perform
disassembly procedures on a clean work surface. Keep components covered and protected at all
times.
Note: Put orientation and location marks on all fittings for installation purposes.

1. Remove fittings (1), fittings (2), and washers (3).
2. Remove plug (4) .
Personal injury can result from being struck by parts propelled by a
released spring force.
Make sure to wear all necessary protective equipment.
Follow the recommended procedure and use all recommended tooling to
release the spring force.
3. Remove plug (5), washer (6), spring (7), and piston (8).

Engine Oil Filter Base - Assemble

Assembly Procedure
Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before assembly, thoroughly clean all parts in cleaning
fluid. Allow the parts to air dry. Do not use wiping cloths or rags to dry parts. Lint may be
deposited on the parts which may cause trouble. Inspect all parts. If any parts are worn or
damaged, use new parts for replacement. Perform assembly procedures on a clean work surface.
Keep components covered and protected at all times.
Improper assembly of parts that are spring loaded can cause bodily
injury.
To prevent possible injury, follow the established assembly procedure
and wear protective equipment.

1. Install piston (8), spring (7), washer (6), and plug (5) .
2. Install plug (4) .
3. Install washers (3), fittings (2), and fittings (1) .
End By: Install the oil filter base. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Oil Filter and Oil Filter
Base - Install" for the proper procedure.

Engine Oil Filter and Oil Filter Base - Install

NOTICE
containing fluids.

1. Position filter base (2) and install bolts (1) and the nuts. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 44 �
10 N�m (32 � 7 lb ft).
2. Install hose assemblies (3). Tighten the connectors to a torque of 78 � 10 N�m (58 � 7 lb ft).
3. Apply clean engine oil to the seal of oil filter (4). Install oil filter (4). Refer to Operation and
Maintenance Manual, "Maintenance Interval Schedule" for the service interval for the
engine oil filter.
4. Lower the hood.

Air Cleaner - Remove and Install
SMCS - 1051-010; 1054-010
Removal Procedure
1. Open door assembly (2). Raise hood assembly (1) .

2. Remove cover assembly (3) .
3. Remove primary air filter element (4). Remove secondary air filter element (5) .
4. Remove hose (7). Remove bolts (8) and remove air cleaner (6) .

Note: Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, SEBU8340, "Engine Air Filter Element -
Clean/Replace" for information on servicing the filter elements.
1. Position air cleaner (6) and install bolts (8). Install hose (7) .
2. Install secondary air filter element (5). Install primary air filter element (4) .

3. Install cover assembly (3) .
4. Lower hood assembly (1). Close door assembly (2) .

Removal Procedure
