#caseando is a prototype project aimed at reconfiguring collective housing in Madrid by connecting personal and social spheres through DIY workshops and citizen initiatives. It signifies a shift from institutionalized housing to citizen-driven models, creating new public spaces for collective living. The initiative features a series of workshops that engage participants in urban empowerment, culminating in an exhibition showcasing the developed prototypes.

2. Connecting the personal and the social, we need further analysis of the relation-
ship between the public sphere and domestic and personal level. A new collective
space based on openness, the distribution network of domestic practices in the city,
generating new areas or fields of the public. VIC proposes #caseando. One possible
model to operate with home as a prototype for configuring a new collective space in
the city.
Housing is no longer an urban institutionalized form and ruled only by administra-
tions, governments, businesses and institutions. New network protocols operate
making the apartment a out-of-administration process, ie, an assembly of citizens’
initiatives, collectives, platforms, self-produced technological infrastructures and
devices. These parallel processes that occur in the city create new spaces of collec-
tive housing that start to deploy in the city.
The project responds to a reality, this new public sphere emerging from the distri-
bution network of domestic practices in the private spaces of the city. The prototype
#caseando proposed strengthening these spaces and actors through a series of
workshops DIY (do it yourself) in this new emerging form of housing. #caseando is
a device thought in action and urban and citizen empowerment through domestic
practices. Over the week seven microworkshops will be held with specific needs
around the theme of the cycle.
Background
#caseando includes the series “Encounters and Initiatives for Urban Empower-
ment” and whose key concepts are housing and urban space and citizen empower-
ment. Issues such as New Economies, Cohousing, Care Public Space are taken
this year to a more specific level, where collective debates turn into a practical
workshops. The program is divided into three phases, prototype design; building
the prototype and a third one in which everything built will be shown to the public
at La Casa in #caseando exhibition.
