Logistics & Setup
• Logistics:
   – The session relies on printed materials that are provided to the attendees:
      • Pack 1: Interviews with Nigel, Anne and Michelle
      • Pack 2: Interviews with Nigel, Ed and Rajesh
   – Divide your session into groups of 5-6. Each group should then be split in two, with each
section getting 1 set of materials (and every group having both Packs 1 and 2 between them)
   – These materials need to be printed beforehand in sufficient quantities
   – Post-it notes are useful for capturing objectives that you can refer to later on
   – Consider the room layout – how will you promote teamwork between the groups?
• If you don’t have time then you may want to skip the presentations, or only run a
  couple of them
   – There’s a randomizer to help you pick a group at random
   – Have a think about where they will present
   – You may be able to split the faculty so multiple groups can present at the same time
• Above all, prepare:
  – Brief any other presenters on the session contents and how you want to run it
  – Use the notes in this presentation and trainer notes to familiarise yourself with key
    messages / content

You can improve your performance in case studies!

                                        They have their own language
                                        • Get familiar with the kinds of
                                          information used in business
                                        • Think about how to analyse the
                                          materials provided

                                        Collaboration is often required
                                        • Think about how you can contribute to
                                          the team
                                        • Interpersonal skills are an opportunity
                                          to shine

                                        Good results come with practice
                                        • Do example questions
                                        • Try to make practice relevant to your
                                          target industry

Logistics & Setup •Logistics: – The session relies on printed materials that are provided to the attendees: • Pack 1: Interviews with Nigel, Anne and Michelle • Pack 2: Interviews with Nigel, Ed and Rajesh – Divide your session into groups of 5-6. Each group should then be split in two, with each section getting 1 set of materials (and every group having both Packs 1 and 2 between them) – These materials need to be printed beforehand in sufficient quantities – Post-it notes are useful for capturing objectives that you can refer to later on – Consider the room layout – how will you promote teamwork between the groups? • If you don’t have time then you may want to skip the presentations, or only run a couple of them – There’s a randomizer to help you pick a group at random – Have a think about where they will present – You may be able to split the faculty so multiple groups can present at the same time • Above all, prepare: – Brief any other presenters on the session contents and how you want to run it – Use the notes in this presentation and trainer notes to familiarise yourself with key messages / content © 2011 Accenture All Rights Reserved. 2

Editor's Notes

  • #2 NOTE: Comments like this one have been added throughout the presentation to help you with key messages based on previous presenter experiences!
  • #6 1 min-The presenter should complete this slide with their own details.
  • #7 NB Although this breakdown is based on Accenture’s structure, it should be presented as a generic view of the industry.Talk through briefly- maybe highlight some industry differences- top 4. vsstrat firms- present as overviewKey points:We are all about changeWe get presented with poorly defined problems and shape them into plans to resolve for each clientWe will draw on teams including all of these skills from across the globe2-3 mins
  • #8 2-3 mins- Bring in own examples of projects you worked on in ACG but as brief overview- make this a broad view of what grads in consulting might do not Accenture specific!
  • #11 Write the objectives on the board and paraphrase them! You will come back to this later on…
  • #12 Don’t drain this – it’s only important to emphasise that there are a variety of different general skillsets that employers are interested in
  • #13 Points to emphasise:The information in each type of case study will vary with the company you are applying forMost firms (certainly Accenture) will want to see candidates working with othersThere are lots of example case studies available onlineIn summary: You won’t change who you are but you will give yourself the opportunity to shine in interview
  • #14 A typical Accenture clientA case study we have used before at interviewThe kind of work we do every day
  • #15 Typical brief – emphasise the first point!
  • #16 Work through with the candidates some techniques including:TimekeepingClarifying the objectiveSetting up an approach (i.e. what steps you need to go through logically)Roles within the groupExtracting information, paraphrasing and note-taking. Highlighters out!
  • #17 Reflect on the points made earlier i.e.:TimekeepingClarifying the objectiveSetting up an approach (i.e. what steps you need to go through logically)Roles within the groupExtracting information, paraphrasing and note-taking. Highlighters out!
  • #18 Here you will walk through the problems that the teams have identified, aligning them with areas within Accenture / types of implementation
  • #19 Suggestion: As for a definition of strategy. Reveal these points, and then ask for the examples people found that might align to Strategy (reference trainer notes for these…)
  • #20 What are the top 3? How would you implement? What would the plan look like? How do you sell this to the client?
  • #21 Roleplay CEO or client partner. Give examples of some typical probing questions from interview stage (e.g. critique of the plan), as well as some positive and constructive feedback on each presentation. If too many teams, use RANDBETWEEN function in excel to generate random team numbers.
  • #22 Add any you can think of too!
  • #29 If interested and not out of time…
  • #30 1 minute
