Carnaval 2009 in Brazil featured themes from India, France, the Amazon, oceans, and love. The escolas de samba parades employed thousands as embroiderers, carpenters, and others and used recycled materials, generating income for poor communities. Around 150,000 people attended over two days in Rio de Janeiro, with around 120,000 dancers and 45,000 tourists, as Aquarela do Brasil by Gal Costa provided music.
