Caracas, the capital and largest city of Venezuela, is located in a narrow valley along the Venezuelan coastal mountain range in northern Venezuela. The valley has a spring-like climate between 760-910 meters above sea level. Separated from the Caribbean Sea coast by steep mountains over 2,200 meters high, Caracas has a population of around 5 million people and its hillsides are crowded with informal settlements known as barrios.
