When it comes to car maintenance, the difference between the first car I owned and vehicles produced today is huge. With the advent of computer technology and its integration into our cars and trucks, car maintenance has become much more complex than was the case in the past. There are still some things, however, that most of can do, and in the process we can save ourselves some money rather than having the work done by a trained mechanic.

5. Have you ever heard
of a pediddle? It is a
slang term for a burnt
out headlight on a
car.
6. I once told an old girlfriend that seeing a
pediddle meant that I needed to kiss her for
good luck and it worked like a charm.
7. If you car has a pediddle, then it is really
rather simple to install a replacement
headlight yourself.
9. I recommend using gloves when you replace
a headlight, as these lights are usually
halogen and the use of gloves with prevent
you from transferring oil from your hand
onto the bulb which can shorten its life.
10. You can access the headlight from the
engine compartment and begin by
unplugging the electrical connection on the
rear of the bulb.
11. Then you just unscrew the plastic ring that
holds the existing bulb in place and reverse
these two steps and you are done, no more
pediddle.
12. Worn out wiper blades can make it difficult
to see the road when it is raining.
