where did these delicious

Flipping through the
history of these candy

peppermint.
The amazing hook shape
that we all see nowadays
started appearing
somewhere in the late
1670s. According to tales
doing rounds, a German
church choir director gave
this shape to resemble a
shepherd's crook. He then
started to distribute these
in his church.
It came handy as it could
be used for hanging on the
branches. But even during
these ages it lacked
coloring. The now popular
red stripes appeared post
1900s. It was during the
early 1900s only that the
peppermint flavor started
getting added.
7. The manufacturing process of candy canes is as old as it's history. It starts by
cooking together a batch of sugar, water and corn syrup. Next, a mix of starch
and flavoring goes into the preparation. These two are now binded together.
Next to distribute the flavoring uniformly in the entire batch, a machine
containing plunger is used. Following this the candy is stretched along the
metal posts. This turns the candies white and it now looks like a cylindrical
mould.
Next they combine the red coloured cylindrical mould of candy with the white
mould. It then undergoes a batch roller. This then travels between wheels that
further slim it down. It is then cut with a chain of knives to cut the right size.
