This document proposes a new automated system for cleaning and sanitizing the interior of bulk carriers used to transport palm oil in Malaysia. It notes that current manual cleaning methods are inconsistent, fail to meet international standards, and do not properly manage environmental impacts. The proposed system would use automated Clean-In-Place technology to allow for consistent, repeatable cleaning that eliminates safety issues and reduces wastewater. It also provides background on Malaysia's palm oil industry, transportation and export processes, and standards from other industries to develop new guidelines.
