Editor's Notes

  • #2 Introduce myself. Explain that I’ve been asked to share my experience of building a trading platform from scratch.
  • #3 Always been passionate about running my own business. Started a business straight out of uni – not enough experience. Worked across a number of industries gaining broad experience. Focused on finance. Became frustrated by not being able to do what I wanted to do. Passion + experience = I was ready.
  • #4 Introduced to bitcoins and was immediately excited by the disruptive nature and abundance of opportunities. All about picking the best one – for me, it was based on my experience. Built a team to cover my weaknesses.
  • #6 Introduced to bitcoins and was immediately excited by the disruptive nature and abundance of opportunities. All about picking the best one – for me, it was based on my experience. Built a team to cover my weaknesses.
  • #7 Trading platform is made up of two parts. So how to get started?
  • #8 Started by adopting the lean startup up. Built simplified front end quickly. Launched private beta to get user feedback. Back end was non existent initially – managed out of spreadsheets. Refined front end based on user feedback. Built the back end while continually getting user feedback.
  • #9 IT tech developers with no finance background and finance experience with no tech background (me). Loooooong hours. Balancing time with family is tough. I took a week off to do Shitbox rally. So many things to work on with only limited resources. Constant challenge to prioritise development – focus on what users want and not what we think they want.
  • #10 We recently launched to the public. We have exciting product pipeline as well as website improvements. We’ll continue to build – measure – learn so we build what users want and not what we think they want. We will drive towards our goal of being the number 1 trading platform available.
