Building
A Rocket
By: Nora
Elenbaas
What is
my project?
My project is building my
own rocket while learning
about rockets, how they
are made, and space
exploration.
I chose this project
because:
- I am really
interested in
space.
- I wanted to learn
more about space
and about how real
rockets are made.
Why did I choose
this project?
Collecting Materials
● 5 ½ inch PVC
pipes
● 2 PVC connecters
● Cardstock
● Electrical tape
● 2-liter bottle
Launching my
rocket
My Expert
My expert was Derek. He
worked for NASA as a
Flight control systems
engineer from 2003-2008.
He worked on the
engineering part of
making Space Shuttles.
I asked my expert
three questions:
1. What were your
responsibilities when
you worked for NASA?
What did you do?
2. What was your favorite
part of your job?
3. What is something
interesting about space,
NASA, or rockets that
most people don’t know
about?
What did I learn from my
research? The first
astronauts
were chosen
by the
military.
Topics:
● How hard is it to become an astronaut?
● What are the requirements?
● Which countries are involved in space
exploration?
● The “Twin Study”
● What does space do to the body?
