ResumePurpose
A Resumespurpose is to give an employer a snapshot of
your education, employment history, achievements and
interests. This is your opportunityto make yourself “Look
Good”. Shouldinclude a Header, Objective, Education,
Skills, Experience and Activities.
Resume Do’s:
 Share mostlyrelevant informationpertaining to the
job you are seeking. (It’s okayto have multiple
resumesand a generalresume to buildoffof.)
 Input all prior work history ifyou have heldless than
or equal to 6 previous positions.
 PROOF READ!!! – Proper grammar is extremely
important, as well as making sure your font and text
sizes are reasonable.
 Use built points to helpmake reviewingyour resume
easier.
Resume Don’ts:
 Don’t include personalinformation:age, gender,
ethnicity, marital status, age or photos.
 Don’t let your resume go over one page. A more
concise resume is better because it holds information
that is relevant to that job.
 Don’t use personal pronouns. Ex:I, me, my, we, their
etc.

The cover letter shoulddothe following:
1. Tell the employer whyyou are interested

Cover Letter Tips:
 Don’t repeat the resume, give information onwhy
you shouldhave the position.
 Keep it short andto the point, the employer will be
reading manyof them, length is an issue
 Be rememberedwith a strong starting statement.
Starting your Cover letter:
A Cover letter shouldstart with some attentiongrabbing
aspect to make your cover letter stand out fromthe rest.
 Start with Passion
o If trulyloving data is wrong, I don’t want to be

need someone whocandig into data, see

the status quo, let’s talk.
The Interview
Preparation – First Impressions - Confidence
These are the three main aspects of executing a successful
interview.
Preparation:Researchthe position, companyculture, and
the name(s) ofwhowill be interviewingyou.
First Impressions:Greeting the personwhois interviewing
you with a strong handshake, sittingwith goodposture
and dressing appropriately gives the employer a sense of
your confidence andprofessionalism.
Confidence:Finding the proper balance between
conveyingyourselfas confident andnot arrogant is
extremelyimportant. Be confident in yourself and your
skills but not be boastful.
Interview etiquette:
 Dress according to howyou want to be viewed. Some
positions are more relaxedthan others but proper
business dressis the best assumption.
 Speakclearly, sit tall andthinkbefore youanswer
questions.
 Maintaineye contact andactivelylisten whenthe
employer is speaking.
 After the interview it is important to senda follow up
thank you letter. Thankingthem for the opportunity
and for taking time out to complete the interview.
