INTRODUCTION
Sally S. Cherry, BS, MT(ASCP) is a medical
technologist certified by the American Society
for Clinical Pathology (ASCP). She specializes in
laboratory methods for the diagnosis of sexually
transmitted diseases and infections (STD/STI).
Ms. Cherry’s professional vision, training and
experience have led to a diverse laboratory
science career. In 2014, Ms. Cherry celebrated
her 40th year in medical laboratory science and
was featured in the ASCP ONELab News for
2014 Medical Laboratory Professionals' Week.
After several years as a medical technologist at
Union Memorial Hospital, Ms. Cherry accepted
the position as Laboratory Coordinator for the
Baltimore City Health Department - Bureau of
Disease Control. This career move evolved into
local, national and international laboratory
career opportunities centered on medical and
clinical laboratory training. Since 1981, she has
served as the primary STI laboratory instructor
and consultant at the Baltimore-based regional
STD/HIV Prevention Training Center and other
public health programs focused on managing
sexually transmitted infections (and diseases).
As an international Genital Tract Infection
(GTI) consultant, Ms. Cherry has provided
assessment, planning and training services for
family planning service programs in Turkey,
Kenya, Egypt, Uganda and USA (Bolivia/Brazil).
Since 2006, Ms. Cherry has integrated real life
laboratory training; lab career promotion; social
media capacity building and collaborative
network building within 2D and 3D immersive
