Within months of coming to DJJ (now DJS) the former Secretary had been promoted to the Department of Corrections and a new Secretary was appointed by the Governor. There was a major re-org taking place. I was hired as an Event Planner at HQ but got promoted to Volunteer Coordinator within 5 months. After 4 months as Volunteer Coordinator for 500 non-stipend volunteers statewide, I received the recognition of the Communications Director for my KSAs in Public Relations & Affairs and earned the role of Public Information Officer (PIO) to the Secretary. As acting PIO, I lead the re-org of our State Department's image. I lead DJJ to adopt Maryland's state colors versus the institutional blue and white the department had prior to me. I developed a new logo, slogan, and brochure for the department. I earned the responsibility of crafting the Secretary's speeches and talking points and coordinating his Press Kits and public appearances. I also took leadership in planning high profile conferences and summits where the Governor, Lt. Governor, and Secretary would attend and speak.
