Surveillance and Self-Presentation: Foucault’s Arts of Existence in the Digital Archive
Anne Kustritz
Anne Kustritz is a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Department at Macalester College where she teaches media anthropology, sexual citizenship, and queer and feminist theory. Her research centers on cyberethnography, queer citizenship, the public sphere, and slash fan fiction and other fan creative practices. Her essays appear in the Journal of American Culture, Refractory, Transformative Works and Cultures, and Flow, and her book manuscript is titled "Multiplying Sex, Sociability, and Civics: Slash Fan Fiction's Publics."
European Schoolnet aims to bring innovation to education in Europe through technology. They pledge to support schools' effective use of ICT, improve education quality, and promote a European dimension. Their study found that girls are interested in IT but not IT jobs due to unrealistic stereotypes, lack of creativity/real-world problems, and negative influences. Programs involving education and industry can increase girls' STEM interest by 20% by engaging them early and using engaging teaching approaches in computer science beyond just digital literacy. Measurable multi-stakeholder programs, including computer science in curriculums and teacher training, along with informal education, can help make this happen.
This was a talk for NERD Summit 2015, at UMass-Amherst. I cover these technologies for setting up web development environments: do-it-yourself, WAMP, Vagrant, and AWS. I also present the most important web dev configuration: VirtualHosts.
Andrew Kennedy presented on Clocker 1.0.0, an open source project for deploying and managing containers across platforms. Clocker uses Docker containers and supports deployment to virtual machines, bare metal, and multiple clouds. It utilizes Calico for networking and plans to further integrate with Docker Swarm, Compose, and other Docker technologies for orchestration and management of container workloads in the future.
This document is a message for a special person expressing how much they appreciate and care for them. It says that the recipient's positive light and behavior makes others feel appreciated. It thanks them for the emails that have brought smiles and good moods. It acknowledges that the recipient is important and appreciated. It offers a flower and says their friendship makes them a better person. It hopes this message makes the recipient smile and that they will share smiles with other friends who love them.
We are in danger of hell as a consequence of sin inherited from Adam. God created humans with free will but they disobeyed and ate from the forbidden tree, bringing sin into the world. As a result, all humans inherit Adam's sin nature and the penalty of death. However, Jesus provides a way to be saved from this fate. The document encourages attendance at a future discussion to address misunderstandings about salvation.
This document summarizes the key characteristics of next generation application servers. It discusses how traditional tier-based architectures are difficult to scale due to their siloed nature. It then introduces the concept of a scale-out application server that uses a space-based architecture with processing units that are self-sufficient units of scale. Each processing unit combines data, processing and messaging. This allows for linear scalability compared to traditional architectures. The document also discusses how middleware virtualization abstracts the physical resources and enables features like location transparency, dynamic service discovery and parallel execution. It provides options for adopting existing applications on this new platform and compares it to traditional J2EE application servers.
This document summarizes Rachel Davies' presentation on real-world agile practices. Some key points:
- Agile teams often combine practices from different frameworks like Scrum, XP and Lean into their own "mashups" based on their needs rather than strictly adhering to one framework.
- Core practices like daily standups, iterations/sprints, user stories and retrospectives are common across teams, but some practices are more optional depending on the project.
- Agile roles usually include a self-organizing cross-functional team, a product owner to prioritize work, and a scrum master to facilitate the process and remove obstacles.
- Agile principles emphasize flexibility and continuous improvement over

This document appears to be a presentation from Nokia about mobile gaming. It discusses creating mobile content for the next generation, showcasing technology and inspiring users. It talks about the N-Gage experience and connecting people through play. It discusses how mobile devices have become powerful multimedia computers and how technology can mobilize web2.0 and social networking. It presents ideas for casual mobile minigames and what the next steps may be, focusing on technology, context, personal development and utilizing technology to innovate, take risks and listen to customers. It provides examples of Google launching Google Gears and a fishing game being the number one title on N-Gage.

Volunteers are needed to help coordinate efforts like work days and potential trail projects.
Galaxy Zoo is a citizen science project where over 700,000 images of galaxies were classified by 20,000 users, resulting in over 40 million inspections. It was highly successful, with classifications exceeding those done by professionals. The project expanded to include over 1 million galaxies classified by 170,000 users and generating over 70 million classifications. It demonstrated the value of citizen science for making significant contributions to real astronomical research.

Presentation to GIBBS MBA class on Disruption and InnovationBrian Pinnock
This is a talk I did a few weeks back to a GIBBS MBA class. It covers a nice wide range on digital disruption and how to try and innovate in a disruptive world. It does acknowledge sources in the slides but I would specifically like to acknowledge:
- Mary Meeker - KPCB (multiple presentations)
- Brynjolfsson & McAfee 2012 (Race against the machine)
- Govindarajan & Trimble 2010 (The other side of Innovation)
- Hobcraft 2012 (navigating-the-three-horizon-framework)
Failure Is Guaranteed: Internet Marketing's Greatest StrengthIan Lurie
This document discusses how failure is an integral part of success in internet marketing. It notes that success in internet marketing is measurable and quantifiable. It also states that most people expect perfection on the road to success, but the truth is that failure allows internet marketers to chip away at problems through trial and error until they find success. The document encourages marketers to rapidly test ideas, measure results, record learnings from failures, and adapt quickly in order to use failures constructively on the path to success.
