Crowdsourcing tech for social good and crisis responseMelanie Gorka
Crisis Commons is a global network of volunteers who use technology to help communities during crises. They organize CrisisCamps where volunteers collaborate online and in person to map issues, translate information, and develop tools to coordinate relief efforts. For the 2011 Japan earthquake and tsunami, over 200 volunteers from around the world contributed to Crisis Commons' response through activities like gathering data and mapping relief grants.
The document summarizes an event bringing together Random Hacks of Kindness, Ladies Learning Code, and Open Data Hack Day. It provides an agenda for the event including introductions and problem scenarios to work on, as well as encouraging participants to upload solutions to www.rhok.org and provide good documentation. Breakfast and introductions are from 9-11am, then hacking begins, with updates at 5pm and optional dinner and continued work or going home. Tips are also provided on getting set up for Random Hacks of Kindness projects.
Borredà is a village located 24 km from Berga in Lleida, Spain. It has 600 year-round residents that increases to 1,500 in the summer. The most notable site is the Gorg del Salt gorge and waterfall. In the summer, children attend summer camps housed in a convent. Previously, the economy relied on two textile industries and agriculture, but now mostly involves two sawmills, a supermarket, and four farms with many residents working elsewhere. The town hall was rebuilt in 1980 and the church dates to the 9th century. Famous residents include a doctor and composer, and there was previously a distinctive local cake.
Hagar International works with trafficked, sexually exploited, and abused women and children. This presentation explains the backgrounds of our clients and our holistic model of care. For more information contact usa@hagarinternational.org.

Iron Carbonyl Dianions Stablized By The Indium Tris(3,5 DimethylBrandon Alexander
The document summarizes research on synthesizing and characterizing new complexes of indium tris(3,5-dimethyl)-1-pyrazolylborate with iron carbonyl dianions. Two iron carbonyl dianion complexes were synthesized and then reacted with indium tris(3,5-dimethyl)-1-pyrazolylborate in a "one pot" reaction to form new complexes. Characterization with NMR spectroscopy showed the indium tris(3,5-dimethyl)-1-pyrazolylborate moiety had coordinated to the iron carbonyl dianions. This research expands the use of indium tris(3,5-dimethyl)-1-pyraz
Transition Metals As Spectroscopic Probes for Structure and ReactivityBrandon Alexander
Transition metals can be used as spectroscopic probes to study the structure and reactivity of biologically important metal centers that are otherwise "spectroscopically silent". Common replacements include using cobalt for zinc, manganese for magnesium, and lanthanides for calcium. NMR techniques such as using shift reagents and relaxation reagents allow the study of metal binding sites and environments through analysis of signals from nearby nuclei that are perturbed by the paramagnetic metal ion substitute.
The document discusses the benefits of exercise for mental health. Regular physical activity can help reduce anxiety and depression and improve mood and cognitive function. Exercise causes chemical changes in the brain that may help protect against mental illness and improve symptoms.
The document describes research into synthesizing new inorganic complexes by reacting [HB(3,5-Me2-pz)3]InCl2 •THF with various multi-metal carbonyl compounds. This yields two new complexes: [HB(3,5-Me2-pz)3]In[Fe2(CO)8] •THF in 58.58% yield and [HB(3,5-Me2-pz)3]In[Fe3(CO)11] in 46.30% yield. Infrared spectroscopy shows the formation of new indium-iron bonds in these complexes. The complexes are predicted to have octahedral or distorted octahedral geometries.
Short Metal-Metal Bond Distances Containing the Indium tris(3,5-dimethyl)-1 P...Brandon Alexander
The document summarizes research on synthesizing metal-metal bonds using an indium tris(3,5-dimethyl)-1 pyrazolylborate moiety. Key findings include:
1) An indium pyrazolylborate was synthesized and shown to react with metal carbonyl anions like Fe(CO)5 and W(CO)6 to form short metal-metal bonds.
2) X-ray crystallography revealed bond distances of 2.463(2) Å for [(HB(Me2-pz)3]In-Fe(CO)4 and 2.783(2) Å for [(HB(Me2-pz)3]In-W
