A former Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) agent, Brian Shanahan worked for the United States DEA for two decades before retiring. People with disabilities have experienced higher unemployment rates during the pandemic, as per a recent report from the Office of New York Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. Unemployment rates for New York citizens with disabilities averaged 16.2 percent from March 2020 to April 2021, up 8.9 percent from the previous year. On the other hand, the general population's unemployment rate is at 11.3 percent on a monthly basis. According to the report unemployment rates for disabled New Yorkers fell to 8.8 percent in 2019, the lowest level since 2009. However, with the recent data, the issue has resurfaced.
