6:45 a.m. Staff arrive – make sure everything is in place
Volunteers arrive and get assignments
7:30 a.m. Attendees begin arriving; boxed breakfast is set up in lobby and ready to go
Staff encourages everyone to move to front seats and that the program starts promptly at 8:00

 Good morning, I am the United Way of Greater Knoxville Board of Directors Chairman,
Tommy Schmid, and I want to welcome all of you to this morning’s two-thousand-
fourteen campaign kickoff!
 Before we begin our program, I would like to invite Pastor, John Stuart from Erin
Presbyterian Church to give an invocation.

 Thank you Pastor.
 We have a special treat for you this morning. United Way supports the University
Assisted Community School Program at Pond Gap Elementary. Children who participate
in this program benefit from your generosity.
 Now, please welcome the Pond Gap Elementary School Choir.

 Weren’t they wonderful? Let’s give them a big round of applause.
 We have another special surprise for you this morning. I’m thrilled to introduce the
head coach of the University of Tennessee men’s basketball team, who is also a friend
and donor to United Way of Greater Knoxville. Let’s give a big welcome to Coach
Donnie Tyndall.

 What an honor for the coach to take time out of his busy schedule to be here. Coach,
thank you.

 Now I would like to introduce the man of the hour. Not only is he the Founder,
Chairman and CEO of Radio Systems; he is also the owner of the Tennessee Smokies
Baseball team; with his wife, Jenny, he owns Boyd’s Jig & Reel in the Old City; he is a Big
Brother through the Big Brothers Big Sisters program, and he sits on several boards,
including the Boy Scouts and the Knoxville Zoo.
 He has also worked to improve statewide educational issues, working closely with our
Governor.
 And, did I mention he is working toward making Knoxville the most pet friendly city in
America?
 Needless to say, we are honored to have the hardest working man in Knoxville as our
two-thousand-fourteen campaign chair.
