2. BMW will soon begin production on the current-
generation M4 GTS. Rumors claim that the car
may receive the celebrated Coupe Sport
Leichtbau (CSL) badge instead of the traditional
GTS designation. BMW last introduced a CSL car
more than a decade ago with the E46 M3 CSL,
which was produced in a limited edition run of
1,400 cars. The E46 M3 CSL remains one of the
most celebrated BMW models to date, making the
prospect of a new CSL rendition extremely
exciting for fans of high-performance cars.
3. The title CSL mostly refers to the car’s weight class.
The potential M4 CSL would weigh hundreds of
pounds less than a standard M4 coupe, largely due to
the use of carbon fiber front seats and the lack of a
rear bench. The car will also be offered with a built-in
roll cage.
According to preproduction designs, the M4 CSL will
look similar to the M4 MotoGP safety car with a large
spoiler, a front splitter, and a bigger rear diffuser
than the standard model. The engine will feature
BMW’s water injection technology. With several other
mechanical tweaks, the car is expected to deliver 500
horsepower with an impressive amount of torque.
