Communicationmajorsare stereotyped assororitygirls,athletesandstudentswhocan’tpass
chemistry,butthese stereotypescouldnotbe further fromthe truth.
Withthe cost of tuitionskyrocketing studentswantto investinadegree thatwill
leadto a careernot justa piece of paper.
Unlike mostmajors communicationsisnotaspecificfield,meaning thatstudentsare giventhe freedom
to decide whatjobpath theywant to go intoaftertheyreceive theirdegree.Still Iknow whatyou’re
thinking,youshouldnotpaytogo to school to learnhow to communicate.Communicationisjustthe
title giventoourmajor notan actual descriptionof whatwe do. Everyone seemstoshare the same

In realitywe are more than justcommunicationmajors.We are analysts,researchers,persuadersand
so muchmore.Technology isconstantlychanging, andmanycareersthat were inhighdemandtenyears
ago do notevenexisttoday.Itisimportantthat we as poorcollege studentsfindaskill thatwill remain
inthiseverchangingworld,and1 skill thatemployersdeemnecessarytosucceedinthe workplace is
communications.Itisanintangible skill thatisoftenoverlookedbystudents. Itisa shame thatwe as
hardworkingcollegestudentsare discreditedbecausewe have an“easy”major.Easy majoror not I have
maintaineda3.792 GPA, have placedinthe top 15% of myclass at The OhioState Universityand
worked2 part-time jobs,andyouwantto tell me I am lazybecause Ichose an “easy” major.I am proud
to say I am a communicationsmajor,andtoall the other majorsthat lookdownonus and saytheyare
harderworkersbecause theychose a“hard” major. Goodluck findingajob withyourpinholedcareer
optionsandyour 2.7 GPA. Do not worryaboutus “easy”communicationmajors,because we will be
laughingall the wayto the bank.
