An underground garage was being dug to a depth of 4.6 meters on the south side of a building, while excavated dirt was piled to a height of 10 meters on the north side, creating uneven lateral pressure that exceeded the strength of the building's pilings, causing it to collapse towards the south where excavation was occurring.
