The reticulated python feeds by first coiling into an S-shape and striking at its prey with its long curved teeth. It then constricts its prey to kill it and uses powerful muscles in its head, back, and sides to swallow its victim whole. The snake is able to swallow large prey thanks to a special bone that allows it to open its jaws extremely wide and a breathing hole that permits it to breathe while its mouth is full.
