When discussing health and illness, two influential frameworks are commonly referenced: the Biomedical Model and the Biopsychosocial Model. Here, I’ll compare them, outline their core assumptions, applications, strengths, and limitations, and provide quick guidance on when each might be most appropriate. Primary focus on biological factors as the cause of disease. Disease is a deviation from normal biological function that can be diagnosed, treated, and cured primarily through biological interventions. Mind and body are largely separate; psychological and social factors are secondary or irrelevant to disease pathology. Health and illness arise from the interplay of biological, psychological, and social factors. Mind and body are integrated; social context and behavior influence biological processes and outcomes. Patient-centered care: emphasizes patient values, beliefs, and life circumstances. Dr Aliya Shair Muhammad Lecturer: BUMHS , Quetta
