Autumn Newsletter 2010

Welcome to our
Autumn Newsletter!
We have had a flurry of interesting
projects and whenever our customers
visit we always get the response –ooh we
didn’t know you do that - so thought we
should address the situation and keep you
up to date!
Jamie, as some of you know, first
started the company back in 1990 and
since then we have experienced many
changes in both our services and what you
need from us. Our background is very
much re-upholstery, our late Dad had a
very successful re-upholstery company
starting back in the 1970’s when standard
office chairs were very expensive and Mum
used to sew the cushions, with us
generally either asleep in the sewing
basket (Jo) or running around trying to
help Dad (Jamie!)
Time moves on and although Dad is no
longer with us, we now employ many of
the staff that used to work with him and
also their grown-up offspring. As a
company being run by brother and sister
we are a very tight knit group of people
and try to always offer the friendliest and
most cost effective service for all of our
very differing clients.
We hope you find this newsletter of
interest. You are very welcome to come
see for yourself or if time does not permit,
please call us in and we would very much
welcome the chance to see how we can
make your money go further by making
your furniture greener.

How to make your furniture “Greener”?
Did you know you can save up to 50% (in
some cases much more) of the cost to
replace by refurbishing your furniture? So
as well as saving your pounds you are
also being kind to the environment.
We have in-house a team of very skilled
upholsterers who will strip back your
chairs or sofas, replacing the foam and
re-upholstering with a huge range of
recyclable hardwearing and in some
instances, stain repellant fabrics which
are guaranteed up to 10 years.
This means that you are not disposing of
good quality furniture and can double the
life span of your furniture by using a much
longer lasting fabric on your items.
This doesn’t just apply to upholstered
items, we have a dedicated team of
polishers who will bring back to life old
tired pieces of wooden furniture.

2. A new office for Hemmersbach
Hemmersbach, the leading specialist
for the provision of cross-border volume
services for the information technology
and telecommunications (ITC) industry,
has recently moved from serviced
offices in Bracknell to new
accommodation in Aldermaston.
We provided a space planning service and
completely kitted out the new offices with
desks, chairs, storage and new boardroom
furniture. All on time, within budget and to
Hemmersbach’s complete satisfaction.
Operations Manager, Claire Rogers said
“Jamie’s team helped make our transition
from serviced offices to our own a simple,
uncomplicated process and nothing was
too much trouble for the team involved –
we are very happy”
Gallery gets re-polished!
We have been working for a number of
years on helping with restoring modern
and historic pieces of wooden furniture by
re-polishing and repairing.
Working with many such clients as The
National Gallery and The University of
Oxford, we are able to restore
sympathetically their public furniture
including wooden benches, tables, desks
and wardrobes, as well as leather and
fabric seating.
We are also able to restore wooden floors,
stairs, doors and any aspect of wooden
furniture. We can provide new glass tops
to protect your newly polished furniture to
keep it pristine for many future years.
Our skilled wood polishers, including Ben
Clark (son of Jeffrey - our fabric cutter
shown on front page) are able to bring
back to life furniture that most people
would deem unsalvageable.

3. From Black to White...
Charles and Ray Eames designed the
iconic “softpad” group of chairs back in
1946 and the design works as well now
as it did then.
We have worked on many projects with this
chair in varying measures. We are able to
clean, feed and recolour the leather and
repad the cushioning or can completely, as
pictured right, transform the chairs from
their original colour and re-upholster to
give a chair that looks brand new.
Either way, these chairs now cost over
£2000 new and are very well liked by the
legal and design professions who
appreciate the sleek lines and aesthetic
qualities- we can restore at less than a
quarter of the replacement costs which can
make a huge difference on a tight budget.
DP World - Refurb of
24/7 control room chairs
Many of our corporate clients can see
the benefit of recycling their furniture
by re-upholstering and repairing their
existing furniture.
We have helped many clients including
Police Forces, Hospitals, Fire & Rescue
Services to reduce their carbon foot print by
maintaining their good quality new furniture.
Many of these clients including DP World of
Southampton have very good quality chairs
that are in use 24 hours a day, 7 days a
week. DP World have recently had all of their
24/7 chairs refurbished by Berkshire
Furniture Services.
We were able to lower their capital
expenditure costs by re-upholstering
and repairing their existing furniture and
provided free of charge loan chairs in
the interim.

College of Law upgrade tables and chairs
The College of Law - the UK’s leading and
longest established law school, The
College of Law occupies a pivotal role at
the heart of the legal profession.
We have been providing new furniture and
re-upholstery services to the College since
2005. The College was experiencing
problems and was unable to purchase
chairs that had always been used by the
College. We were able to replicate the
design of the chairs and have supplied our
services to the College ever since.
This new school year the College has a
brand new education centre in Bristol
where we have supplied and positioned
new tables and chairs as pictured. We
have also manufactured 530 of our Ascot
chairs to the College’s Bloomsbury site in
London for use this September. “Berkshire's staff were friendly, efficient and a pleasure to deal with”
4. Please contact us with regards to any projects that you currently have or any new ones that you are thinking of.
We have focused in this edition on restoring your existing furniture but we also manufacture and supply new furniture
using recyclable fabrics and sustainable wood and products. We always endeavour to source locally and within the UK.

Meet the staff - Mark Webb
Mark has been with us since 2007, when
we combined the services of Mark and
Ben’s wood polishing spray shop into our
present building.
Mark has been a friend of Jamie’s and Jo’s
since Mark and Jamie’s time at College
together in High Wycombe studying
antique and modern re-upholstery and
traditional and modern wood spraying
techniques - a few years back now!
Mark is very likable and helps with many
aspects of the business but is our front
man for wood-polishing jobs and as well as
helping in the office will also be found
working onsite with wood work re-polishing
and within our sprayshop at our premises.
You might find him suited and booted but
he’s more likely to be at our premises in
shorts and wearing his beloved Liverpool
football shirt!
University of Surrey becomes indestructible!
Re-Cover - Until the Economy Does!
You may have chairs that are as tired and
worn out as the ones shown here in our
factory awaiting refurbishment.
The days are gone where we have the
money, or lack of thought of our
environment, to throw away and start
again with new furniture which most of
our clients say are “not made like they
used to”. Why not see if we can save you
money by restoring your furniture?
We have bright and funky fabrics which
we will specify to suit your purposes. The
ones shown are stunning and are also
suited for healthcare furniture which
needs to be waterproof and anti-microbial.
Who needs shiny, sticky
vinyl when you can have
beautiful, soft and SAFE
choices of fabrics?
And at the same price!
This year we have manufactured
thousands of our in-house Indestructible
Student Chairs including one large order
for the University of Surrey of 850 chairs.
The chair is a winner as it has no
removable parts and is well padded and
very robust. It’s suitable for Student
Accommodation or any educational use
and withstands the rigours of student life.
The indestructible student chair has been
made by us for over 12 years now and is
used in schools, colleges and universities
all over the UK.
