COMMENDATION ON WORK COMPLETED AT CONSTANTIA WOODS ESTATE
As you have become aware, this estate hosts the largest working collection of antique sanitary ware in
(at least) Africa. The four homesteads and satellite cottages have between a wide range of antique
loos, rolltop baths, porcelain-topped taps and mixers dating from the Victorian era (ca 1890) until the
Second World war (ca 1940).
Your restoration has brought life back into a number of these working museum pieces, enhancing their
authenticity and working appeal to the users and observers. Thus where requested, minimal repairs
were carried out just to chips, cracks etc causing minimal loss to the piece's integrity (better than a
complete, unwarranted refurbishment!). Furthermore, it was possible for you to achieve effective
colour-matching to the original light-cream colour frequent in early porcelain ware (better than the
pure white so often only on 'offer' by amateur restorers). The hand-cleaning of the antique loo pans
surpassed any amount of bleach application!
All completed efficiently and at a pre-arranged time table (designed to create minimal disturbance to
guests and tenants) at an economically acceptable prices!
