This document outlines a proposed 15-minute mockumentary TV show called "Supers: Behind the Cape" that follows the daily lives of superheroes and villains when they are not fighting crime. The show will air on BBC3 post-watershed and be a comedy/drama that is shot in a documentary style. It will follow the stories of the hero Captain Justice and the villain Dr. Reprobate as they go about their daily routines like shopping and cooking. It will be written and directed by Sam Wilder and co-written by James Ogden, with costumes designed by Ria-Jane Allison and a website created by friend Harry Akerman.

2. What is it?
‘Supers: Behind the Cape’ is a 15 minute long
mockumentary show.
Documentary styled, following Super Heroes and Villains
in the real world, and what they get up to behind closed
doors when not out fighting crime/causing mayhem.
Comedy/drama, will be pilot episode.
Half show following a Super Hero, the other half following
a Super Villain – their stories will mix in with each others.

3. Where will it be shown?
BBC3, post watershed approximately 1030pm.
Post watershed, as there will be some strong language
within the show, and slight hints of graphic violence (as
well as a large bit of comic violence however). Alcohol use
will also be shown.
Will be shown on BBC3 – who are looking for
experimental new comedies with ‘bags of attitude and
potential for high impact’, which is how we intend ‘Behind
the Cape’ to be – very in your face style of humor. (quote

Intended audience for late teens & early to mid twenties.

4. What is a mockumentary, and
how is ‘Behind the Cape’ one?
A parody of a documentary, shot in the same kind of format. ‘Behind the
Cape’ will be shot as if it were a documentary, with a very comedic side to
it.
Interviews – There will be interviews placed throughout as the characters
go about their daily routines, describing who they are and what they do.
Astons – Will be placed when a new character is introduced and being
interviewed, so the audience know who the person is. Ours however will be
slightly stylized, going to a short freeze frame of the hero/villain, with a
short definition of part of their name shown under their name. For example:
Justice
The quality of being fair and reasonable.
Or something similar.
Actuality – Actuality footage will be shown cut throughout interviews, or as
separate segments in themselves, with the hero or villain showing the
audience around their ‘secret bases’, or showing them at the shop, in the
pub etc.

5. Who is ‘Behind the Cape’
about?
‘Supers: Behind the Cape’ follows two main people, or characters, both of
whom are a Super Hero and a Super Villain, respectively, who are at a
constant battle between each other; essentially they are arch-enemies.
It give an insight into both of their lives behind closed doors, in what they
call their ‘secret lairs/bases’, be it going shopping, cooking, cleaning or
even going out to the pub.
It will however, follow a story for each character, before the stories tie into
each other for a dynamic ending.
One other character is that of the documentary maker, who is not named,
simply refers to himself as ‘A Professor’. (more detail in slide to come)
The other bit parts will mainly consist of the hero’s supercomputer, and a
bunch more evil villains, who all take part in an Evil Council meeting during
the main villains story.

6. The Hero
Justin Jones
Justin Jones is an ordinary early 30 year old male. He has no day job and spends
most of his spare time keeping himself in shape. Behind closed doors however he
is…
CAPTAIN JUSTICE
Captain Justice is who Justin Jones really is, as who he spends most of his time
as. His ‘Super Power’ is having a very profound and extreme sense of justice. This
means even the very smallest of things he considers unjust, really get to him, and
he will strive to make things just again, or rather, what he sees as just, even if
there is no need to interfere at all.
Personality-wise, he is very arrogant: he does not take no for an answer. Once he
gets an idea in his head, there is no changing his mind. He is self-
obsessed, constantly looking after his image, both physically and in the media. He
thinks he is popular, when in reality, people appreciate he is a hero, but those who
have met him consider him to be an idiot and don’t really like him at all.
Captain Justice does not have a sidekick, but he gets all of his information from
his supercomputer, ‘J.U.S.T.I.C.E’. J.U.S.T.I.C.E is an incredibly intelligent
machine, with incredible AI, with a face and sarcastic personality to match. It
constantly argues with Captain Justice, who constantly calls it a piece of
junk, despite him being heavily dependent on the information it gives him.

7. The Villain
Dr. Reprobate (name TBC)
Captain Justice’s arch nemesis, Dr. Reprobate (name TBC), is the polar
opposite of CJ. The Dr. is not as tall, and very skinny in comparison, making him
not much when it comes to physical combat. Instead he uses a series of ‘high-
tech’ gadgets he creates, although not very well. He has the intelligence just not
the engineering capabilities to create them successfully.
Compared to CJ, whose personality was explained earlier, he actually comes
across as quite a nice guy, despite being a Villain. He does however, have
aspirations to take over the world, saying he will be a ‘fair and respected’ leader.
He will stop at nothing to get what he wants, he only has Captain Justice
standing in his way.
Constantly a battle between each other, the Dr. is constantly trying to come up
with plans to get rid of Captain Justice with his two henchmen, and as such, has
formed the ‘Council of Injustice’ . Within this council he has called other super
Villains to his side. The Dr. created the council specifically to formulate ways to
get rid of, or even kill, CJ, while the other villains in the league are more up for
the world domination side, the Dr.’s hate for CJ just clouds his judgment and his
priorities.

8. The Documentary ‘Creator’
The mockumentary, or rather, documentary as its fictitious
creator sees it as, is made by an older scientist with no name
that we hear. We just know he is a scientist/professor.
At the start of the program, he will introduce it, explaining that he
made the documentary to get a better insight into the lives of the
worlds supers, (heroes & villains), so we can better understand,
why they do what they do, and what happens when we don’t
see them on the streets fighting or causing crime. He will also
appear at the very end to conclude the show.
Throughout, it will be made out as if he is behind the camera,
occasionally his voice will be heard offering questions to his
interviewees, to give the sense that it was in fact him who made
the documentary.

9. Council of Injustice
The Doctor’s ‘Council of Injustice’ consists of multiple
other Super Villains, who hold monthly meetings, but in a
very non-traditional way to how you usually see an Evil
Leagues meeting. Instead, they all meet up, drink tea and
have biscuits, whilst having a very cub-scouty feel to it,
handing out badges for different evil activities they have
done and the such.
These other villains have not been completely confirmed
as to who they will be yet, but a few examples of some
Council members are:

10. Location & Casting
For locations, I will be using a variety of places. Mote Park will be
one location I am going to use for a fight between the two main
characters.
As for their secret bases, I will use an ordinary sitting room for the
Council’s meeting, and perhaps a bedroom for the Dr’s actual base,
as realistically, he does not have the money to afford anything
better.
Captain Justice on the other hand, will live in a large manor house
(available to me as my Uncle lives nearby in one) in the
countryside, which reflects his personality as to why he is so full of
himself.
As for casting, Captain Justice is currently undecided, so I am
going to get on Casting Call Pro, and Star now as soon as possible
to find my actors. The Doctor, however, is more than likely going to
be played by Josiah Norris (who you all know as the host of
Punchlines), who has a lot of acting experience as well as his

11. Who I am collaborating with…
My main collaborator is going to be James Ogden (Pepe), who
will be co-writing the whole thing, and also editing it for me. My
reason behind choosing Pepe, is we have worked together on
many a past projects and we know we work well together. We
share the same humor, so we believe we can write something
solid and funny, and he is much better at editing than I.
Other collaborators include Ria-Jane Allison (Creative Arts of
Theatre and Film) who will be designing costume and doing
make up for me, and Jamie Drabble (Illustration) who will be
coming up with the logo’s for the heroes and villains. I also have
a friend, Harry Akerman, who studies website design, and who
has agreed to help me build a proper website for this, as the
brief asks for a website to be made.

12. Overall…
‘Supers: Behind the Cape’ is a 15 minute comedy styled
mockumentary.
To be shown post watershed, BBC3 at 10.30pm
Explores what Heroes and Villains in the real world get up
to in the average day to day lives when not fighting crime.
Should hopefully make you all laugh.
