Over 300 youth volunteers came together from May 11-13, 2012 in Conghua, China to build homes for those in need as part of the Youth BUILD program, despite rainy weather on the last day. The volunteers worked hard each day from morning until evening, took breaks for lunch and dinner, and heard from guest speakers including Habitat Green Ambassadors and the CEOs of the organization. The volunteers were determined to continue their important work despite the rain at the end of the three day event, and all looked forward to participating again in 2013.

This study cultivated the red seaweed Gracilaria verrucosa in the Jinshan enclosed sea area of Hangzhou Bay, China to evaluate its potential for bioremediation of eutrophication. Results showed that G. verrucosa cultivation significantly improved water quality from worse than grade IV to grades II-III, reducing concentrations of dissolved inorganic nitrogen, ammonium, nitrate, nitrite, and phosphate by over 49% on average. Cultivation also decreased phytoplankton density and increased species diversity compared to the control area. Over 18 metric tons of G. verrucosa would need to be cultivated to maintain water quality standards, indicating its effectiveness for bioremediation in this low
