1. Bear Walked into an Alaska High School
Bear Spotted in an Alaska High School – as part of the news series by GeoBeats.
Noone expects to see a bear when going to their high school.
But a young black bear did wander into Bartlett High School in Anchorage, Alaska. It apparently
got in through an open door in order to look for food. People inside the building evacuated while
police were called in to handle the situation. “She was shopping. Any trash can that had any
food in it was knocked over. She peed in the hall at one point.” said local officer Chris Mueller.
The bear ran back into the woods after police scared it away from the school.
Another black bear, in Boulder, Colorado was tranquilized and relocated after it climbed a tree
on campus near University of Colorado dorms.
Colorado Parks and Wildlife workers relocated the bear some 50 miles away. Unfortunately, the
bear was killed a week later when it was hit by two cars while trying to cross a nearby highway,
but not before starring in its own internet meme entitled “falling bear.”
So have you ever had a bear encounter?
