Anand Kumar is an Indian mathematician who started the "Super 30" program to provide free coaching to 30 economically disadvantaged students each year to prepare them for the IIT-JEE entrance exam. Through his program, over 270 students have gained admission to IITs since 2002, many coming from very poor family backgrounds. Kumar's goal is to identify and nurture talented students regardless of their financial constraints. Aniruddha and Sanskrit take a trip from Calcutta to Dumka to visit their classmate Promode. During their journey, their car gets a flat tire in a remote area. They seek shelter in an abandoned dak bungalow for the night. That night, Sanskrit witnesses strange behavior from Aniruddha, including writing in a diary and acting as if talking to someone named Rex, before Aniruddha seemingly shoots himself. Sanskrit then faints from shock. In a later interview, Sanskrit recounts these strange events to reporters.
