The AURES project, running from 2015 to 2017, focuses on renewable energy auctions across EU member states, aiming to analyze and optimize auction designs through empirical data and stakeholder consultations. It investigates the effects of auction structures, such as penalties and pre-qualification criteria, on outcomes in UK renewable energy auctions, revealing that auctions without such measures often lead to strategic bidding and do not guarantee lower prices. The project also conducts modeling to project the necessary renewable energy uptake to meet EU targets for 2030, emphasizing the need for coordinated policy efforts and financial support mechanisms.
