Wine & DineFormal Wine Tasting for 4 to 8 in Your HomeItem 176Learn from the Fast Break Club’s own Nancy Baker! Here is a formal wine tasting for a group of four to eight people with wine notes and educational materials.  Includes a tasting of 9 to 12 wines, varietals to be mutually determined, in a formal format at your home (greater SF Bay Area only) or other mutually agreed upon location.  Wines, wine glasses, tasting notes, educational materials, and personal tasting note sheets to be provided.  The two- to three-hour tasting will be scheduled at a mutually agreed upon time between now and June 15, 2010.  Unless otherwise requested, tasting will include comparison of three California Pinot Noirs made by different winemakers from grapes from the same vineyard and a comparison tasting of three Kistler Chardonnays from the same vintage but different vineyards.  Kistler Chardonnay is made using traditional French techniques, with the winemaker himself performing the cellar work on the wines. Kistler Chardonnay has a distinct character. It is completely barrel-fermented using indigenous and cultured yeasts, is aged in 50% new French oak barrels unracked and in contact with all its fermentation lees, has undergone a malolactic fermentation, receives minimal handling and processing, and is bottled unfiltered and, generally, unfined after 11-18 months of barrel age. Note: BID EXTRA HIGH! If the winning bid is substantially higher than the listed value, the selection of Wines will reflect the higher donation.Donated by Nancy Baker Date to be mutually determined To be used by 6/15/10Value: $500 Opening Bid: $300 Bid Steps: $50
Wine & DineKistler 2006 Hudson Vineyard ChardonnayItem 184Another impressive group of Chardonnays from Steve Kistler, these 2006s are unmistakably Burgundian in their aromatics, textures, and flavor profiles.  Kistler has given up on the highly fashionable Dijon clones, relying on old California clones, primarily old Wente selections.  He feels the same about Pinot Noir, using the Calera and other older California clones rather than the Dijon selections. An exotic effort, the 2006 Chardonnay Hudson Vineyard exhibits a light straw/green hue as well as boisterous, exuberant notes of buttery tropical fruit and smoky nuts.  It is the most flamboyant and showy of these Chardonnays. Donated by Nancy Baker Value: $109 Opening Bid: $50 Bid Steps: $10 Patz and Hall 2007 Jenkins Ranch Pinot NoirItem 185Cola, earth, musk, tea and blond tobacco add depth and complexity to the dried strawberry and cherry fruits of the nose. This is velvety, rich and round with the seamless character of the best domestic Pinots. It has lovely depth and a layered feel on the palate. It’s soft yet intense with an earthy complexion that makes this an outlier for the style, though it is a wine that has something for just about everyone. Donated by Nancy Baker Value: $55 Opening Bid: $30 Bid Steps: $5

Opulent, rich and elegant, this proprietary Bordeaux varietal blend is loaded with dark berry, vanilla and spice flavors, silky tannins and a luxuriously long finish. The Profile is Merryvale's flagship Bordeaux blend, designed to showcase the best fruit from each vintage. The 2004 is comprised predominantly of cabernet sauvignon (79%), petit verdot (12%) and merlot (7%) from Merryvale's estate vineyard, Beckstoffer-ToKalon, Georges III and Vineyard X. It was then aged for 18 months in French oak barrels. The resulting wine displays classic Bordeaux aromas like black cherry and cassis, complemented by hints of vanilla, cedar and cocoa. On the palate, the wine is rich and dense, sure to last for a decade or more. Wine & DineFormalWine Tasting for 4 to 8 in Your HomeItem 176Learn from the Fast Break Club’s own Nancy Baker! Wine & DineKistler2006 Hudson Vineyard ChardonnayItem 184Another impressive group of Chardonnays from Steve Kistler, these 2006s are unmistakably Burgundian in their aromatics, textures, and flavor profiles.
