My experience at Argosy University Online has been an
outstanding turning point in my academic life.

I was embraced by in an environment by students and
instructors excited about their field collaborating
              together to explore psychology.

I was able to obtain a work-study position with a local
VA Hospital, maintain a 3.85 GPA, complete
literature reviews and research papers on
PTSD, Alcohol Blue Laws, Capuchin Behavior
Studies, and conduct interviews and surveys, and
                    many other subjects.

Cognitive Abilities

 As I learned more about
   psychology I wanted to
   explore topics that are
    favored from a single
  research perspective. In
 doing so I challenged my
own critical thinking abilities
     with this paper and
addressed information from
  many sources on PTSD.

Communication Skills

Communication skills can impact someone's
quality of life. In this article I look at how
adolescent boys in a delinquent detention center
could benefit by developing inter group conflict
skills through programs.( CLICK HERE)
Diversity Awareness

Diversity can be analyzed from many
perspectives. In this article I discuss how
 to approach changing perceptions.(CLICK

Foundations of the Field

The Agency Intake
Interview paper linked
below demonstrates
knowledge of the
foundations of the field
through an analysis of the
interview process.

Knowledge of Applied Psychology

This literature review paper (CLICK HERE)
uses applied psychology as an analytical tool
    to evaluate legislation for biases.
Abstract
Blue Laws often double in purpose as sumptuary laws.
Sumptuary laws attempt to regulate consumption, often in the
hopes of controlling societal behaviors, influencing population
health and regulating the economy. Blue Laws are specifically
designed to enforce the religious morals and convictions, most
often in the U.S. preserving the Christian Sabbath. Comparing
the types of arguments for preserving Blue Laws with their
sumptuary applications and contrasting the need for
change, this paper explores Blue Laws as a hindrance to
creating effective legislation while discussing potential means
  for revision.
Interpersonal Effectiveness

This paper explores my own personal
relationships and uses skills learned at
  Argosy University. The linked document
evaluates how to improve my own
  interpersonal effectiveness with those closest
  to me. (CLICK HERE)
My Future in Learning

• Completing a masters degree as I have
  indicated is the next step.
• I also intend to continue developing my
  leadership skills by seeking out
opportunities in through my work place
  which offers a great deal.
• Additionally there are many systems
  certifications associated with my career
field that offer a constantly changing
  line of study.

Editor's Notes

  1. Greetings and thank you for taking the time to review my ePortfolio.
  2. My personal preference would be to attend Penn States program for my masters degree, because they offer an excellent program in geographic information systems. This plan is contingent on current career path. If for some reason that path should change or I am not able to continue my education with Penn State, then I will continue psychology with Argosy to a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology.
  3. This section summarizes the highlights from my resume. Some information is not appropriate in this format for additional specific information please contact me for a copy of the complete resume.
  4. I have attended many schools over the years these however are the primary universities. If for some reason you need to know the schools I have attended please feel free to contact me.
  5. Additional certification and further specifics are also available in the complete resume.
  6. Again, specific position titles have been withheld however the bulk of responsibility is still described within the bullets.
  7. Being an instructor was not just a highlight from my resume, but sincerely one of the most rewarding positions I have held. The exchange I had with my students that enabled me to provide guidance for them as they prepared for their careers in the military and that is what drew me to the field of psychology.
  8. The first three bullets are displayed separately because they are awards received with specific recommendations from other service members. The recommendations specifically praise skills and attributes in the official documents as a formal recommendation and can be provided upon request if further recommendations are need. The last bullet are specific to carreer achievements and locations of service.
  9. I’d like to thank my fellow students, the universities advising staff and most of all all my instructors for making each of the courses I took special.
  10. Work from various courses throughout my year at Argosy demonstrate the lessons learned. My written skills consistently improved and be came more refined as I progressed through my time in the university. I learned a great deal about writing effectively. I included various samples from different stages reflecting that improvement. That improvement can be noted by the quality of the work, but is not indicated by the order in this presentation.
  11. When we think about post traumatic stress disorder most of the time we will focus our thoughts and attention on the military environment. However, PTSD is not specific to one environment or type of person. With the realization that the military is not the only group of people afflicted by this disorder, I approached this topic wondering what other circumstances other than the trauma are involved in the causalities.
  12. Understanding how behavior influences our decisions can take us down many roads. I became interested how we evaluate decision making processes, while watching my students struggle with the decisions that their training would was preparing them to make in the military. While investigating collateral cost versus benefit decision research I cam across a cost aversion market study conducted by Laurie Santo. Through this study I began to learn how evolution can play a part in the choices we make.
  13. Associated with our ability to socially interact is our ability to communicate. If we are not effectively communicating then from that social interactions can become strained. While improving communications skill alone on its face will not stop criminal behavior, there is a potential for improved socialization through improved skills in communication.
  14. Case: Shelly’s best friend Melinda was in a serious car accident six months ago, leaving her partially paralyzed from the waist down. Since that time, Melinda has undergone extensive rehabilitation, but continues to require the use of a wheelchair. Shelly has been impressed by Melinda’s strength, physically and emotionally, but she knows it has been a difficult six months. Shelly has been unsure of how much she should bring up Melinda’s situation, but decided to ask Melinda over coffee to help her better understand what she is going through.
  15. Interviews take shape in many forms and are a critical part of our lives. An interview allows us to familiarize ourselves with others. Conducting effective interviews will allow us to more effectively gather the information we want to know about others.
  16. Learning how to apply what we have learned to situations in our own lives can be a challenge. Perhaps, the greatest challenge is allowing what we have learned to challenge our preconceived perceptions.
  17. Finding ways to use the lessons we learn after challenging our own perceptions can reshape and change our lives. This doesn’t always have to take place on a personal level. As we saw in the last slide it can reshape or legislation, as well as many other aspects of the way we behave.
  18. In some respects becoming a life long learner can appear as a external locus of control. Continuing your education can be as small as a certification requirement at your work place. Continuing your education can also be as daunting as staying competitive in your workforce or required for that promotion that you desperately need. Realizing and internalizing those requirements as small goals to your larger objectives can shift that locus of control to the internal.
