Cleopatra was the last active ruler of the Ptolemaic Kingdom of Egypt and lived from 69 BC to 30 BC. She gained fame for her role in the Roman civil wars and romantic affairs with Julius Caesar and later Mark Antony. Cleopatra committed suicide after Antony's defeat at the Battle of Actium, bringing an end to the Ptolemaic pharaohs and Egypt becoming a province of the Roman Empire.
