A full-service construction company that operated in Mount Vernon, New York, Persico Contracting
& Trucking, Inc. was in business for more than 30 years. During that time, the company took on
several site construction projects for ConEdison. Persico Contracting & Trucking maintained a
particular interest in parks and recreation development and was also involved in several civic
construction projects, including the Yorktown bicycle path in Yorktown, New York, and the
reconstruction of the Dyckman Street bridge in New York City. For both projects, the company
earned a commendation for charitable contributions.

Recently, the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (OPRHP) and
Parks & Trails New York (PTNY) announced the acceptance of applications for its fifth round of
competitive grants. These grants are funded through the New York State Environmental Protection
Fund and are awarded as part of the New York State Park and Trail Partnership Grants program,
administered by OPRHP and PTNY.

The grants program is open to organizations that focus on the maintenance, preservation, or
promotion of public land, trails, parks, and historic sites throughout the state. These organizations
are referred to as “Friends groups” and must be charities registered with the state and the IRS to
be eligible for a grant. Once a grant is received, it can be used by the organization to fund a range
of projects, such as repairing historic furnishing or updating signage around a park.

Grants Now Accepted
By maintaining the Park and Trail Partnership Grants program, PTNY and OPRHP hope to
enhance parks and other public areas in New York. In doing so, the organizations hope to promote
tourism to these areas and the benefits of outdoor recreation. This year, the program is offering $1
million in grants to Friends groups. It will accept applications until December 3, 2019, and
announce recipients in March, 2020.
