culture wasimproved. All these leadtoCostreduction,man-powerreduction,equipment
availability. Systematicdevelopmentof aMine Sumpenabledrainwaterharvestingeliminatinglong
standingwaterscarcityproblem.All surroundingminesinthe Gulbargazone,whichis a draught
prone area, adoptedthe same system.Effectivedustsuppression&massiveplantationdone inthe
mine areaimprovedthe Mine Environment.
In cementcorporationof Indialtd.asGeneral Manager Plantsat Kurkunta CementFactory
(Karnataka) andYeraguntlaCementFactory (AndhraPradesh) workingsof the plantswere improved.
Yeraguntlaplantwhichwas a lose makingorganisation forlast12 years since itsinceptionwasmade
a profitmakingorganisationforthe firsttime.The captive limestone mineof GreenFieldProjectat
Adilabadwascompletelydesigned&made operative byme singlehanded.
WORK EXPERIENCE
At the Limestone Mine of Vasavadatta CementFactoryMine Layoutandrealignmentof Mine Faces
were carriedout keepinginviewthe existinggeological featuresasevidentfrompresentmining

2. faces. Drilling/Blastingpracticeswerechangedresultinginimprovedspecificdrilling,powderfactor,
goodfragmentation,reducedgroundvibration,fly-rockproblemetc.Administrativelythe work
culture wasimproved.All theseleadtodrasticchangesinworkingstyle.Costreduction,Man- power
reduction,equipmentavailabilitytookupwardtrend.Systematicdevelopmentof mainMine Sump
enabledtotal rainwaterharvestingtherebyavoidingwaterscarcity problemamajorrelief forthe
managementyearafteryear.All surroundingmine inthe GulbargaZone whichisa droughtprone
area adoptedthe same system. Effective dustsuppression&massive plantationprogramme
improvedthe Mine environment.
InCementCorporationof IndiaLtd.as General Managerof the Plant at Kurkunta Cement
Factory(Karnataka) &YeraguntlaCementFactory,(AndhraPradesh) cementplantworkingsof the
plantswere improved.Yeraguntlaplantwhichwasalose makingplantwasconvertedtoprofit
makingorganisation.AdilabadCementProjectagreenfieldprojectitscaptive Limestone Mine was
made operative byme rightfromlease sanctioning,landacquisitionetc.
SKILLS/STRENGTHS
Due to strong technical considerationsintroducedbetterdrilling&blastingpracticesresultingin
betterdrillingrate.Bybettercombinationof spacingandburdenin relationtothe heightof the
benchmuch betterspecificdrillingcouldbe achievedwhichcausedmuchlessdrillingforsame
production.Thisalsocausedsavinginmanpower&reduceddrillingcost.Due to betterblasting
practicesthe powderfactorimprovedwhichalsocausedreducedblastingcost.Alsodue tobetter
fragmentationloadingefficiencyimprovedreducingloadingcost.Thisfactoralsoreducedfatigue on
the operatortherebyimprovinghisefficiency&reducingloadingcost.Alsodue toreducedboulder
handlingthe loadingequipmentbreakdowncame down&itsavailabilityincreased. Special attention
was paidforimprovementof haul roadsurface bydeploymentof compactor,watersprinkling,wider
haul road etc.This has causedbetterfuel consumption,bettertyre life,improvedoperation
efficiency etc. resultinginreducedtransportationcost.All these have beenhighlyappreciatedbythe
management.
