The Amish population experiences higher rates of certain genetic disorders like blood disorders and metabolic disorders compared to the general population, due to their small gene pool from descending from a few original 17th century immigrants. This "Founder's Effect" has led to increased occurrences of autosomal recessive genetic disorders being inherited from both parents. Additionally, the Amish may have undiagnosed chronic illnesses such as hypertension, diabetes, and heart disease at higher rates. They also experience more accidents both on farms and in automobile-buggy collisions, many of which prove fatal.
