Factories, houses, cars, and human beings were at loss. One day, I watched news about what had happened after tsunami. A reporter asked an old woman who was at her destroyed house that what she was looking for. Certainly I thought that she would seek for money for her next difficult days. Nevertheless, she answered that she wanted to find her ancestral tablet. She explained that it was the valuable thing she should keep. My heart was moved by her answer. That woman’s spirit opened my mind about lost and found.
Tsunami made many Japanese people lose their relatives. Tsunami victims became homeless and did not know what their future would be. However, between Japanese and Japanese I recognized that they cooperated to go through their difficulties. When I was in Osaka, I felt the warm atmosphere that Osaka people collected money for tsunami victims. Everywhere Japanese people called help for Japanese tsunami victims.
When I left Japan for Vietnam, I also saw Vietnamese people funding for Japanse tsunami victims all over around Vietnam. Not only my country’s people, but people all over the world opened charity camgpains for victims. I could recognize warm love which people in the world share with Japanese people.
I had lived in Japan for six years. Certainly I like my life in Japan. I have many Japanese friends. That is why I can understand Japanese character. Japanese tsunami must be a shock to Japanese people. They lost too many things but they found strength to continue their hard lives after tsunami. I think that it is a wonderful thing because Japanese people have found spiritual value lastly. This is love that Japanese, other countries’ people share with tsunami victims. I myself respect Japanese people because of their strong spirit to win difficulties which tsunami has caused. I feel that my decision was quite right when I chose Japan for study abroad.
Coming back to the story of the old woman looking for ancestral tablet, I conclude that tsunami can take material things away from that old woman but never takes her love for her ancestor away. Also, tsunami can destroy people’s lives but cannot destroy people’s desire of living. In life, we can schedule for everything except for love and death. To love, we can easily give our love for others in order to receive their love in return. To death, we cannot prevent ourselves from dying. However, we can choose to live strongly even when death comes near by us. We cannot know when and where tsunami will happen next. More important, we human beings should love one another in order to prove that tsunami is a loser.
P.S: I write this essay because I would like to thank to Japanese Rotary Club. I had had many good experiences since I received a scholarship from Rotary Club. I had met many kind Rotarians not only in my club—Suminoe but also in other clubs. I really appreciate them because they help me find a way for my future. I will become a professor to teach my students to know the value of life.
