Our Advanced Security Training (AST) course is an intensive, two-day program designed to equip
security professionals with advanced skills and knowledge necessary for effective performance in the
field. The course requires 24 hours of in-class training, spread over two days. This training adheres to
the Security Service Act and Regulation and covers a wide range of critical topics.
Course Structure
The AST course is divided into seven comprehensive modules, conducted in a classroom setting:
1. Roles and Responsibilities of Security Professionals
 Understanding the National Use of Force Model.
2. Federal and Provincial Legislation and Regulations
 Comprehending the legal framework concerning the use of force.
3. Basic Arrest Procedures
 Learning the legal implications and procedures of making an arrest.
4. Effective Communication Techniques
 Managing incidents and use of force scenarios through strong communication skills.
5. Note-Taking and Security Report Writing
 Developing proficiency in documentation and report writing.
6. Physical Control Tactics and Restraint Application
 Gaining practical skills in the safe application of control tactics and restraints.
7. Responding to Excited Delirium and Positional Asphyxia
 Recognizing and responding to critical situations to ensure safety.
Additionally, the course covers personal and professional safety priorities in security roles. Security
workers will also learn the process for adding handcuff use to their license requirements through the
Registrar, Security Services Act.
Certification and Licensing
The exam is available online and can be taken at your convenience within two weeks following the
end of the course. A certificate issued by the Justice Institute of BC will be awarded upon successful
completion, making participants eligible to apply for a license authorization to carry handcuffs while
on duty.

Cost: $350.00 plus tax (includes registration, tuition, and study materials)
Exam Fee: $60.00 (payable separately)
Requirement: Must hold a Basic Security Training Certificate before enrolling.
Physical Training: Includes a physical training and testing component. Please wear gym-appropriate
clothing on both days.
