Chili. Fiercely patriotic, the Tacneños won their independence in 1824
after 50 years of Chilean occupation.

23. Iquitos is is the largest city in the Peruvian rainforest and the fifth-
largest city of Peru. Located in the Amazon Basins, the city is along
the
Amazon Nanay and Itaya rivers.

32. Dogs run free in Peru. They
seem happy and have their
own pack language robust with
conversation, companionship
and a city-wide early morning
warning system.

33. Cats also run free. One park
in the center of Lima
seemed home to 100 cats.
They watched us traipse
through their territory with
a mix of indifference and
mild curiosity.

34. Peru!
Many of the CSJs in Peru
talked about the gift of
“presence.” We experienced
its power time and again as
people expressed gratitude
that we came as if our
presence was some sort of
affirmation.
Yes, there is great poverty
and the challenges that go
with it, but the people and the
land offer amazing treasures.
The people work hard.
They smile easily.
And they have great faith.
