RACE is a report-based payment scheme proposed for multihop wireless networks to encourage node cooperation. It aims to reduce communication and processing overhead compared to existing receipt-based schemes. Under RACE, nodes submit lightweight payment reports to an accounting center containing alleged charges and rewards without signatures. The accounting center can clear fair reports with little overhead by checking report consistency. For cheating reports, it requests security tokens called Evidences from nodes to identify the specific cheaters. RACE can identify cheaters by requesting Evidences from few nodes rather than all involved. It also uses Evidence aggregation to reduce storage needs. Analysis and simulations show RACE requires less overhead than receipt-based schemes with acceptable payment clearance delay and storage requirements.
