Velan was a cruel carpenter who abused his elderly father and gave him little food. His son Muller felt bad for his grandfather and made a wooden plate for his father so he would not be scolded when old like his grandfather. When Muller explained this to his father, Velan realized his own mistakes in mistreating his father and learned to respect and care for his aging parent from his son's example. The story teaches that children can teach their parents lessons and everyone should treat elders with honor.
