This study analyzed the results and learning curve of a surgeon performing their first arthroscopic subacromial decompressions and distal clavicle resections over two years. The surgeon saw significant decreases in average operative time from 111 minutes in the first year to 70 minutes in the second year. Complication and reoperation rates also decreased between the first and second years, showing a steep learning curve for the procedures. The study concludes there is a learning curve for arthroscopic shoulder surgeries but overall outcomes can be comparable to experienced surgeons, and the learning curve should not discourage offering the techniques.
