Acetobacterxylinum is a species of bacteria that produces a cellulose sheet called parchment. When grown in a liquid medium in the pH range of 3.5-4.5, it forms a thin cellulose film on the surface. Testing of three samples of Acetobacterxylinum at different ages ranging from 5 to 15 days showed increases in thickness and concentration of the parchment sheets as the cultures aged.
