2. S1-Sort
In 5s sortingisone of the critical stepsto follow.Inthese picturesthere are acouple of thingsthat isnot
relevantorisnot beingusedinthisworkstation. One of whichisthe greencart onthe firstpicture that
isbrokenwhichisa hindrance wheneverthe truckisunloadingcardboardsbythe horizontal baileron
the leftside of the firstpicture. The secondwasthe brokenbike rackthat is alsonot relevanttowork
processesdone inthe station. Those twohindranceswere removedandplacedona scrap area where it
will notbe a hindrance tothe station.
3. S2- Set in Order
These are the picturestakenbefore andaftereverythingwassetinorder. On the left, there wasno
definitelocationandpropersegregationof toolsinthe workstationandtherefore createsmore time to
lookfortoolsand binsneededforrecycling.Onthe rightpicture the recyclingmaterialswere segregated
properlyintosections:whitepaper,newspaper,bins,andshreddedpapers.Inaddition,rackswere
placedunderneaththe shreddedpaperssoasto avoidpapersgettingsoakedinwaterwhenthe water
runs throughthe groundthroughheavyraining.Thiswasthe concern alsoforthe papers.Itis thatit gets
soakedinwaterwheneveritrainscreatingdelaytime todryitbefore itcan be recycled. The racks
eliminatedthisproblembecausethe papersdoesnottouchthe ground.
4. S3- Shine
Cleaningwillbe easierwiththe new orderthatwasplaced. These are the reasonswhy:
1. Shreddedpapers- workerswillhave lesstimecleaningthe underneathof the shreddedpapers
because theywon’tneedtoremove everysinglebagtocleanthe floor. The reasonthere isracks
isnot justbecause of rain butalso the workercan use a forklift tojustlifta whole sectionof
shreddedpaper,cleanthe floorand thenputthe racks back
2. The same processcan alsobe appliedinbottles,white papers,andnewspapers.Usingaforklift
to liftthe cagesand justcleanthe underneath.
3. In addition, adumpsterwasstrategicallyplacedbeside the shreddedpapersbecause the
concentrationof trashis nearthe shreddedpapers.
S4- Standardize
- Signswere placedabove eachrecyclable material groupsothateach workerwouldhave aneasy
understandingwhere to putthe recyclable materialscollected.
- Indicatorsforcleaning wasalsosetso that the workarea will be keptcleanandorganized.
- The standard alsoisthat everyworkerisresponsible of cleaningthe materialsandthe work
stationat the veryleastof once a week.
- Picturesof howeverypartof the stationwas alsoshownsothat wheneverthere isaworker
turnoverthere wouldbe noproblemrememberinghow the stationshouldbe organizedand
clean
