Executive Summary
Conclusions:
The necessity for a Life Skills/ Financial introductory course for freshmen is
needed. Statistics show that students agree that a mandated course would be
beneficial to their curriculum and they also agree that high school economic
courses do not justify the lack of a finance and critical analysis course here at the
University of West Georgia.
Recommendations:
I recommend that a life skills/ finance class be made mandatory for all freshmen
during the course of their first or second semester. The inclusion of this course to
the current West Georgia curiculum list will achieve the following:
Establish a firm grasp of basic personal finance principles.
Establish a working ability to effectively communicate and provide
analytical reasoning in a business setting.
Provide a financial instruction course to those students outside of the
School of Business, Marketing and Finance.
Ensure that students understand finances and can properly support their
financial decisions including paying off any loans accumulated.
Ensure that graduates from our University are able to conduct themselves
in business settings and will not be forced to undergo further education at
their employer’s expense.
The following report provides detailed statistics including percentiles, charts, and
maps that highlight the disparity of life skill and financial education from high
school seniors to college graduates.
