Happy end to FY 2024
Sudhir Joshi
March 24
Post crash of small and midcap stocks in earlier two weeks, markets started on
cautious note. Till the US Fed meet market was range bound. But Fed’s decision to
keep rates constant and assertion that it will cut the rates minimum thrice during
the calendar year 2024 restored the investors’ confidence. Market bounced back in
last two days of the week. Investors are now bullish about the rising production
figures of US, Europe, China and India.
As we approach end of March & April temperatures are projected to surpass the
normal ranges. Add to that the election fever and Ramzan period. The demand for
ice-creams and beverages is expected to rise. Two prominent picks in this category
are Dabur & Varun Beverages. Dabur is working on increasing its capacity at
Pantnagar plant and also setting up units at Indore & Kashmir for fruit beverages.
Acquisition of ‘Badshah Masala’ brand is an added spice to it’s story. Company’s
shares at CMP of 521 are reasonably well placed for investing. Varun Beverages the
distributor of Pepsi group of soft drinks continued to see strong annual growth
2. despite of unseasonal rains in year 2023. Company’s net revenue increased 21.8%
and volume 13.9%. Company maintains Calender year as financial year. The
Company has increased it’s capacity by 22% in 2023 compared to earlier year. The
stock is always on upmove. It may be bought at current level of 1400 and added
further if goes down.
RVNL: The state-run railway company has emerged as the lowest bidder (L1) for
signalling and telecommunication work for the provision of automatic block
signalling on the Khapri-Sewagram section of the Nagpur division of Central
Railway. The project is worth Rs 47.36 crore. RVNL has also emerged as the lowest
bidder for the Pune Metro Rail Project from Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation.
The said work is worth Rs 339.23 crore. Similarly the company has received Letter
of Acceptance from Himachal Pradesh Electricity Board & Madhya Pradesh Metro
Rail Corpn. At current market price of 249 one can buy for a long term.
Coforge shares came under pressure on the news that company intends to issue
fresh capital worth Rs 3200 Cr. This will dilute the share capital. But company
intends to repay it’s costly debt to the tune of Rs 972 Cr and will have a cash chest
for some acquisition. Company has set target of achieving $2 billion revenue in next
4-5 years. The current fall can be used to buy the shares at lower cost (CMP 5540) .
Hindustan Unilever’s parent company – Unilever PLC is planning to launch a
productivity improvement program and to separate it's Ice Cream business. The
Indian subsidiary HUL will have a little impact on revenue as Ice Cream forms just
3% of it’s business but profitability may improve due to closure of a smaller division
requiring a different supply chain network. But any re-structuring attempt by parent
company, like separating Food & Non food business, will have positive impact on
HUL. HUL’s shares have lost substantial ground in the market and are trading at 52
week low. There is opportunity to accumulate this market leader now (CMP 2256)
for a long term profit.
