Rotary In Oman Prospective Member Info V2Rotary_Oman
General information about the history of Rotary International as well as the recent developments to get Rotary off the ground in the Sultanate of Oman.
It is with great joy that I join the Rotaract (Rotary) Family in ushering in the year 2007-2008 with the theme ROTARY SHARES .
Of course this theme has nothing to do with the listing of Rotary on any of the stock exchanges of the world but rather a call to
share ideas and resources to grow Club membership and effectiveness in projects.
Special emphasis has been set on Net Membership increase and I take this opportunity to share that that our Rotaract Clubs goals is to have a net membership increase of one new member every half year. This should be indicative in all Rotaract functions like ROTS, RYLA, and District Conference etc where each Club will be required to have atleast one additional member in attendance.
As Rotaractors, we have benefited from the mentorship
of our Rotarians and it is important that we share the
fruitage by reaching out to Interactors who are the largest
buffer opportunity for Rotaract membership. I request you
to not only identify Interact Clubs that you can mentor but
also support your Rotary (Mother) Clubs in forming Interact
clubs.

PROGRESS OF POLIO ERADICATION
We are at an exciting time in Rotary's global push
to eradicate polio from the World. In late
September 2015 Nigeria was removed from the
list of polio-endemic countries following no new
cases of the wild poliovirus for an entire year.
In 2015 there were 20 wild poliovirus type 1
(WPV1) cases in Afghanistan and 54 in Pakistan.
As at 10 February 2016, the first case of WPV1 in
2016 was reported, in Pakistan. The latest news:
Iraq has introduced the inactivated poliovirus
vaccine (IPV) into its routine immunization
system.
Environmental surveillance is playing an
increasingly important role in ensuring that
the poliovirus is found, wherever it continues
to circulate.
There are nine weeks to go until the globally
synchronized switch from the trivalent to
bivalent oral polio vaccine, an important
milestone in achieving a polio-free world.
As at 10 February 2016 2010 2011 2012 2013 2014 2015
Endemic countries: 232 341 217 160 340 74
Importation countries: 1,120 309 6 256 19 0
Cases of WPV: 1,352 650 223 416 359 74
Total Endemic Countries: 4 4 3 3 3 2
Total Countries Infected: 20 16 5 8 9 2
Wild poliovirus (WPV) cases – 2010-15
I recently looked back over the progress of polio
eradication over the past few years, and it is very
heartening to note the strong progress that we
are making. I recall that in 2010 the picture to me
was bleak. While we had finally brought down
significantly the numbers of cases in endemic
countries, the numbers of cases in Importation
Countries had spiked. Rotary and its global
partners moved swiftly and effectively to stem
that tide. In 2015 there were only 74 WPV cases.
THE ROTARY FOUNDATION IS TURNING 100
Rotary is marking the Foundation's centennial
with a year of festivities. The celebration kicks off
at the 2016 Rotary Convention in Seoul and will
culminate at the 2017 convention in Atlanta.
Here are some ways to get involved:
Plan a Rotary Day in your community to raise
awareness of Rotary and its Foundation.
Promote projects your club or district is
involved in that are funded by the Foundation.
Share your stories on your social media pages
using #TRF100.
Empower The Rotary Foundation to support
the good work of Rotary clubs around the
world by making a special contribution.
Apply for a grant from TRF to fund a project.

SUPPORT FOR THE ROTARY FOUNDATION
What should clubs aim for? We ask clubs and
Rotarians to actively support The Rotary
Foundation, and would like clubs and Rotarians to
consider these levels of support:
Member Contributions: Annual Fund
At least one Paul Harris Society member per
club (ie. US$1,000 per annum per club)
100% Centurion membership in all clubs (ie.
$100 per member per club pa).
Club Contributions: Annual Fund
US$100 donation from club equal to the
number of active and honorary members, or
15%-20% of funds raised to the Annual Fund.
PolioPlus
At least US$1,500 per club, per year.

CADRE OF TECHNICAL ADVISERS
The Rotary Foundation Cadre of Technical
Advisers is a group of volunteer Rotarians who
provide technical expertise and advice to
Rotarians planning and carrying out Rotary grant
projects around the world.
Cadre members review, monitor, and evaluate
projects and ensure grant funds are being used
properly. Cadre assignments include:
Technical reviews: Cadre members evaluate
the technical feasibility of a project and
submit a written evaluation. Reviewers don’t
travel or communicate with project sponsors.
Site visits: An advance site visitor evaluates
the technical feasibility of a proposed project.
An interim monitor reports on the
implementation of an ongoing project. A post
project monitor evaluates the impact and
resolution of a completed project. For these
assignments, cadre members travel to the
project site and meet with the project
sponsors and the benefiting community.
Audits: Auditors evaluate the financial
management and oversight of grant funds.
Audits can be targeted or random. Cadre
members travel to the project site and meet
with the project sponsors and the benefiting
community.
Cadre members are experts in technical sectors
that correlate to each of Rotary’s six areas of
focus. In addition, their team of auditors reviews
project finances and grant management.
Do you want to add your expertise to the cadre?
We’re looking for Rotarians in all technical areas.
Eligibility requirements include:
Current, active member of a functioning
Rotary club
Good standing with The Rotary Foundation
and Rotary International
Professional experience in at least one of the
technical sectors.

IMPORTANT UPDATE - ROTARY GRANTS
From Abby McNear, Rotary Grants Manager, TRF
as at 18 February 2016:
Effective immediately, new scholarship
applicants seeking to study in the United
States are eligible to receive global grant
funds only for tuition and required books and
fees. These expenses are not subject to U.S.
federal tax withholding, thereby ensuring that
your applicants receive the full value of their
scholarship. However, they now must cover
their travel and living expenses on their own.
Note: these restrictions do not apply to
scholars sponsored by Japanese clubs and
districts, as they are selected and paid by a
Japanese associate foundation.
As of 1 April, Rotary grant-funded travellers
are not required to make their travel
arrangements through RITS/BCD travel. They
may choose to use RITS or they may make
their own travel arrangements.
Effective 1 July, Rotary will no longer provide a
blanket travel insurance policy for Rotary
grant travellers. Insurance will instead be an
eligible grant budget item.
We will share more details as they become
available. Meanwhile, if you have questions, email
rotarysupportcenter@rotary.org.

POLIO PLUS - FUNDRAISER APRIL 2016
PRE-RELEASE MOVIE
Twentieth Century Fox Film Distributors Pty Ltd
have offered to Rotary the pre-release screening
of the wonderful film called “Eddie the Eagle”
which they are launching in cinemas on April 21st
.
Please get behind this golden opportunity and
hold a pre-release screening movie fundraiser in
your local area, raising funds for PolioPlus.

Inspired by true events, Eddie the Eagle is a feel-
good story about Michael "Eddie" Edwards (Taron
Egerton), an unlikely but courageous British ski-
jumper who never stopped believing in himself -
even as an entire nation was counting him out.
With the help of a rebellious and charismatic
coach (played by Hugh Jackman), Eddie takes on
the establishment and wins the hearts of sports
fans around the world by making an improbable
and historic showing at the 1988 Calgary Winter
Olympics.
The film plots Eddie's entry as the only British ski
jump competitor in the 1988 Calgary Olympics.
Easily the worst competitor, Eddie becomes a fan
favourite. His path to glory is strewn with
anecdotal stories, slapstick moments and other
antics.
The Rotary Foundation and 20th
Century Fox have
negotiated that cinemas give exclusive access to
Rotary fundraiser group bookings in the week
before the official film release opens to the
public, to assist Rotary with our fund raising for
the End Polio Now program. 20th
Century Fox
Film Distributors do not own the cinemas, you will
need to negotiate with the cinema manager.
The film is available for pre-release screening
from Wednesday 13th April.
Eddie the Eagle has a great cast starring
Taron Egerton and Hugh Jackman, and all the
features to make it another great movie
fundraiser for Rotary's PolioPlus program.
