The Susan G. Komen Central and South Jersey Race for the Cure will take place on October 4, 2015 at Six Flags Great Adventure. Participants can walk or run to help fundraise for breast cancer research and support breast cancer survivors and those who lost their battle to the disease. The Assault on Mt. Mitchell began in 1975 as a casual ride from friends from Spartanburg, SC to the top of Mt. Mitchell, the highest point east of the Mississippi River. It has since grown into one of the best known cycling centuries in the country, though participant numbers are now limited to 800 by the National Park Service and Mt. Mitchell State Park. The annual event is organized and run by the Freewheelers of Spartanburg, a non-profit organization that promotes cycling in the region and supports other local non-profits through proceeds from the Assault.
South Beach Tour Thriller Miami
Thriller Miami offers 45-minute speedboat tours around Biscayne Bay, South Beach, Fisher Island, and the Miami Gold Coast that cover three times the area of other tour vessels. They also run a fireworks viewing cruise on Independence Day where boarding begins at 8:00 PM from their location at 401 Biscayne Blvd in Miami, and visitors can purchase tickets online or by calling 305-373-7001.

On March 5th, Lets Be Brave will host an event from 4-8 PM at the Georgia Southern University Russell Union ballroom to provide breast cancer information and resources to the Bulloch County community. Volunteers will be available to answer questions and provide flyers, brochures, and coupons. Free ice cream from Baskin Robbins will be served to all attendees. The event aims to assist women aged 40 and above and raise donations for Lets Be Brave to help fund mammograms.

The Anne Springs Close Greenway in Fort Mill, South Carolina is launching a new program called Wild Women Unite, a weekend event on March 11-12 for women to learn and participate in outdoor activities. The activities will include archery, geocaching, horseback riding, pistol shooting, camp cooking and more, taught by credentialed instructors. It is aimed at helping women take time for themselves and reconnect with nature. This is the first time the event is being held at this nature preserve, and is part of similar Wild Women Unite events held around the country. It is open to women of all experience levels ages 16 and older.
Big Burke and Wills Trek
The Big Burke and Wills Trek is a new iconic Australian outback walk established in 2014 that follows the route of the historic 1861 Burke and Wills expedition. The trek begins at the Dig Tree in Queensland and travels through the outback of Queensland and South Australia, crossing two deserts along the Diamantina River to Innamincka. The trek highlights the original route taken by Burke and Wills and allows trekkers to see indigenous artifacts and historic locations through varied outback landscapes. It is a fully catered and supported 100 person trek that costs $3,950 per person.

They found that only 50% of students were aware of CCS, though most supported a program for students with disabilities. Additionally, there is a lack of male mentors in CCS, with only 5 of 70 being male. The research aims to help CCS increase overall awareness, mentor participation, and the number of male mentors.
Cross-National Coverage of GMOs Final copy
This study analyzed newspaper coverage of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) across 19 countries from 2004-2014. It coded 274 articles for tone (favorable, unfavorable, balanced) and direction to calculate a "Media Vector" score for each paper. Most papers (11 of 19) had unfavorable coverage. Correlations found countries with higher poverty, less access to water, more agricultural land, and higher fertility rates had more favorable GMO coverage. A regression found poverty level accounted for 24.2% of coverage variance, and agricultural land accounted for another 4.7%, supporting the hypothesis that countries with more vulnerable populations have media that reflect their interests rather than elites.
