3. A Brand New Bowl Game!
The Christmas Bowl® is a newly proposed post-season college football bowl game,
located in Los Angeles, CA. The Christmas Bowl® location lends itself to some of the
largest college football conference followings, as well as one of the nations largest
tourist destinations.
The Christmas Bowl® anticipates NCAA certification in April 2014 for the 2014-2019
postseason, and will play the inaugural game the week of Christmas 2014 in one of
the most historical stadiums in the world, The Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.
3
4. A New Game Based on Tradition!
Bringing a new bowl game to the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum has been a vision of
Christmas Bowl® founders Derek Dearwater and John Perles, for over 10 years. The
Christmas Bowl® name was adopted in recognition of the first postseason bowl game ever
played in the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum -- the 1924 Los Angeles Christmas Festival.
While the defunct bowl game was only played in 1924, it’s meaningful to the PAC-12, as it
showcased USC defeating a competitive University of Missouri team 20-7, finishing the
season with a record of 9-2. The 1924 Trojan’s were coached by Elmer Henderson, the
winningest coach in USC’s history, with a record of 45-7 (.865). Also present on the field
the day of the LA Christmas Festival, was Brice Taylor, USC’s first All-American.

5. The Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum
Completed in 1923, Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum is located in the University Park
neighborhood of Los Angeles at Exposition Park. With a seating capacity of 93,607,
the Coliseum has played host to the USC Trojans (11 time NCAA Champions) since
1923.
In addition, The Coliseum has the distinction of being the only stadium in the world
to host the Olympic Games twice, in 1932 and 1984. It is also the only Olympic
stadium to have hosted the Super Bowl twice, in 1967 and 1973, as well as the World
Series in 1959. More recently, it was the selected stadium for the U.S. bid to host the
FIFA World Cup 2018/2022, which in Dec. 2010 was awarded to Russia (2018) and
Qatar (2022).
5
7. More Than Just Another Football Game
The Christmas Bowl® committee estimates the new bowl game will generate more
than $30 million annually for the local economy, much of which comes from out-oftown fans spending on local hotels, restaurants, entertainment, retail stores, local
services and beyond.
Much more than just another football game, the Christmas Bowl® represents an
opportunity to become the second largest economic impact of an annual one-day
event during the holiday period in Los Angeles behind the Rose Bowl.
Los Angeles Mayor
Eric Garcetti
"The Christmas Bowl® is not only an
enjoyable entertainment option for Southern
California residents and tourists alike, but it is
also a critically important economic boost
to the local economy, " said Mayor Eric
Garcetti, "I’m pleased with the efforts of
Derek Dearwater and John Perles, as well as
the rest of the Christmas Bowl® committee to
bring a new Holiday tradition for the City of
Los Angeles.

9. No Better Place Than LA

LA is one of the top 3 recruiting markets for high school, or JC talent.
Showcasing your team in the Coliseum serves as an excellent incentive to lure
Southern California’s young talent into your conference

9
10. No Better Place Than LA
Only 2.5 miles from the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum is L.A. Live, which is an new
entertainment complex located adjacent to the Staples Center. L.A. Live cost
approximately $2.5 billion and was developed by Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG),
Wachovia Corp, Azteca Corp, MacFarlane Partners, along with help from Los Angeles
taxpayers. It has 5.6 million square feet of apartments, ballrooms, bars, concert theatres,
restaurants, movie theaters and a 54-story hotel and condominium tower, on a 27-acre
site. The complex became home to AEG and Herbalife headquarters in December 2008.
