4. Take the lead to make a change (pg6)
❖ Sergeant Fadli Shaifuddin was recently
praised by Committee of Inquiry (COI)
for his display of bravery at the Little
India Riots on 8 Dec last year!
❖ At the scene, he was pelted with glass
bottles and other projectiles!
❖ He realised he needed to take the
initiative to enforce law and order!
❖ Instinctively, he charged at them with
his baton to show that he was still in
charge!
❖ Like him, we can also take charge!
❖ Read on to find out how
5. Water rationing in Malaysia (pg 12)
❖ People living in certain parts of
Malaysia have limited access to
water!
❖ The dry spell has depleted
reservoirs in certain parts of
Malaysia!
❖ Water levels at Selangor dam
and Klang dam are at 50% level
(considered critical)!
❖ A campaign has been started
urging people not to waste water
6. Longest period without rain (pg13)
❖ As you know, Singapore is
experiencing its longest period of dry
weather!
❖ Singapore has currently managed to
meet our water needs through a
variety of sources, like Newater and
desalination!
❖ We call them our 4 national taps!
❖ Go to http://www.pub.gov.sg/ to
learn about our 4 national taps!
❖ Read up on our 4 national taps and
blog about how one of them works
here.
7. Stressed-out plants (pg 18)
❖ Plants in Singapore are starting to
wilt due to the lack of rain!
❖ Authorities are calling this plant
water stress!
❖ This occurs when plants have little
access to water!
❖ Without water, plants cannot
photosynthesise (make their own
food) and cannot support themselves!
❖ Did you know that overwatering
plants can also cause them stress?!
❖ Read on to find out more
8. Keeping the flow (pg19)
❖ Cholesterol sometimes builds up in
the inner lining of an artery!
❖ This constricts the flow of blood
through the artery!
❖ This condition is known as
Atherosclerosis!
❖ We can protect ourselves by
maintaining a healthy diet, exercising
regularly and not smoking!
❖ Read on to find out how. !
❖ What about you? How have you
been exercising outside of school?
