NOAA schools the OFFSHC in Weather Preparedness
The March OFFSHC meeting was a blast! Jeffrey Turner, National
Weather Service, gave a quick briefing about the history of the National
Oceanic & Atmospheric Association.

Next, the OFFSHC attended the annual FAA severe weather briefing
which was opened by Rick Smith, NOAA. (view the presentation: Severe
Weather Briefing-March 2013) Mr. Smith discussed the months and
times tornadoes are most likely to occur in Oklahoma. He stated that
the Best Practice for severe weather is to be aware of the weather in
your area and encouraged us all to get a weather radio!
Following these briefings the OFFSHC
toured three types of weather shelters
located at the FAA MMAC. These included
an underground tunnel structure, a small
underground shelter and a half above
ground structure which can shelter 60
people during a tornado or severe weather.
